Just kidding. I made some psychic power and effect markers for you! Images and a free download after the break. (but seriously, dat Destiny beta, tho...)
Oh man, Destiny is the bee's knees! It wasn't really on my radar, but a friend got me a beta code, and damn! It's like MMO Halo with loot drops. I'm seriously worried about the fact that the game launches the exact same week my first child is due. I'm sure my wife will be able to manage without me, seeing as how the universe has to be saved and all...
Right! The markers! I cooked these up this week to help me keep track of my powers and effects. Every game, I cheat myself out of FNP saves, or bonuses of some kind and it's frustrating. The image contains multiples of each marker, great for running two psykers at once. It's linked at the bottom of the post.
First up are the markers for the powers of the hive mind. As I mentioned in our review, the psychic power cards are cool, but they're too big to use as markers near the models, and each set only contains one of each power.
The powers are in hexagons, and are blue to set them apart from the other markers. They can be placed around the base, allowing you to easily see which psyker has which powers.
Next are the positive effects, or blessings. Both buffs and debuffs are noted by a triangle shape, but positive effects are colored green. Each has an icon that corresponds to the activating power. Place these icons near units that have been positively affected.
These debuffs, or maledictions are denoted using red. Units that have succumbed to "The Horror" are pinned. Paroxysm grants a negative modifier to the affected unit's weapons and ballistic skill. The set includes markers for all three possible d3 outcomes.
Tracking instinctive behavior when your synapse web collapses is important, so I've created a set of markers for all three sub-states of the three instinctive behaviors. These are differentiated from the blessings and maledictions by the color purple. Let's hope you seldom need these.
Flying monstrous creatures need to swoop or glide. Keeping track is easy with the flight mode markers, and avoids any confusion for your opponent. I've also included a jink indicator.
Lastly, I've included a few additional markers for regeneration, always helpful to remind you to roll at the end of the turn. And I've added a 'go to ground' marker for your opponents, when they need to hit their bellies from the insane amount of fire coming from your dakka fexes and devil gaunts. (you did bring your guns that shoot bees, right?!)
That's it! I'm considering adding additional markers for toxin sacks, adrenal glands and other non-modeled biomorphs like electroshock grubs or acid blood. What do you think? Leave your feedback in the comments below, and I will update the file regularly.

PS- my 4th grade grammar teacher would be so proud, as I extensively researched the proper use of "affect" and "effect" to make sure I was using them correctly.
This is awesome!!!!
ReplyDeleteOne of the biggest problems with 40k, is just keeping track of all these things...usually to your own armies detriment. (forgetting it will not die, or regen are my most common failings)
*slow clap*
ReplyDeleteMan, it's going to take you a long time to do them for all of my armies too. Thanks though!
LOL.
DeleteYou thinking what I'm thinking? Laser cutter. Put that shit on styrene stock!
DeleteOoh, yeah!
DeleteGreat markers! Very clear symbols, and very user friendly. Going to have to make some for NOVA! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I am going to try to make some temporary ones for my tourney tomorrow, some more durable ones for later.
ReplyDeleteA marker fanatic after my own heart! Interesting use of hexagons to get them to fit together and I like the use of colours to denote buffs and debuffs.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I find with triangular markers is that although they're useful in pointing to the relevant model the points do get bent over time. Of course these are so easy to make they can be seen as practically disposable. Alternatively square markers are handy, they're easier to cut and the corners are slightly less prone to bending.
I find the best way to do the markers is to print them on paper, apply double sided tape on the back and sellotape on the front affix to mounting card and then cut out. Even with continuous use they're really durable, considering, and there's no real hardship if you lose them as the cost practically nothing to do.
These will work much better than the little bits of paper I end up tearing off my army roster.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Just printed 2 copies. Now I need to find some sellotape and card as per Mr. Weston's instructions.
ReplyDeleteOne other bit of advice is for transporting markers. You can use zip lock baggies, alternatively Kinder egg toy pots [you get to eat the chocolate and play with the toy too] but I found the best transport device is this:

A weekly pill dispenser - available from pund shops, just scrape off the days and braille and you're good to go.
I just printed out a bunch of these on cardstock and reinforced them with tape. Used in a game this past weekend and loved them! They were so useful for keeping track of spells and buffs/debuffs. Thank you so much for making and sharing these!
ReplyDeleteOur pleasure. Happy gaming!
DeleteAs an old player returning to the game I'm loving these to help me keep track of everything. I do have a small request if you have time though. I know there are plenty of wound counters around the 'net but I'd love to have some in the same style as these; red triangles or something?
ReplyDeleteThanks again
I generally just put a single red die near the base of the wounded model, with the number shown signifying the remaining wounds.
DeleteYeah I used to do that until i kept picking up the dice my mistake. I have now created my own counters, which I am willing to share if people are interested
ReplyDeletewill be available temporarily

ReplyDeleteGreat job! Those are very neat. It would be a bit better with those : Shrouded, Tentaclids, the bio-artefacts and some biomorphs.
ReplyDeletegreat idea to add shrouded and a few other modifiers. I'll update the file over the holidays
DeleteI tought I was kind of greedy with my post. You're making my day! It's like Christmas again!
DeleteJust thought about Toxic Miasma.
DeleteWhy have I never seen this post before! This is excellent! Way to give back to the community. Bravo.
