TRAVEL: Hong Kong

I'm just finishing up a business trip to Hong Kong and managed to squeeze in a tiny bit of time for hobbying. The GW presence in HK leaves something to be desired, but fear not, their hobby scene is strong.

A little north of my main haunt of Tsim Sha Tsui on the Kowloon side of HK is a little neighborhood called Yau Ma Tei.  It's a little more residential than the sprawling luxury mall that is TST, and with that comes some more personal touches.  There's a few great restaurants, and a little street called Kwong Wa where apparently every single person with a nerdy hobby in the entire city must hang out.  It's wall to wall RC cars, models, motorcycle gear, and airsoft for about 2 blocks.  Lots of fun.

I got there a little early for the hobby crowd- not much open before 1 pm, so it's not much to look at, but here are some random shots:

Trip and I have been known to shoot a few teenagers with airsoft guns (on a legal playing field of course), so it was fun for me to be in the Mecca of airsoft in Asia. It's absolutely insane how jam packed these stores are with gear and mods.  Could easily blow a ton of cash, but we aren't playing much these days, and daddy needs a new Stormraven.

Mods:

That's just one of probably 6 stores in a 2 block span.

I was able to grab a few hobby items, but nobody likes you taking pics in the stores, and the shops are particularly small and difficult to sneak photos in. Needless to say, the Asian brands are prevalent, cheap, and the selection is awesome. All I managed to shoot was a collection of my loot, but I'm really looking forward to trying this stuff out- especially the Tamiya weathering kits.

That's it for now. Looking forward to getting home and putting paint to that Interceptor squad. Until next week,
