Since it looks like we have a wide range of different topics of posts, I thought I'd try to hone my Friday posts with a certain theme. I primarily focus on the Horus Heresy setting for my hobbying; therefore, the majority of my posts will most likely encompass the Forge World models for that game setting.
When I first got into this hobby 4 years ago, someone at work had mentioned something about the "Horus Heresy." Not knowing anything about the 40K lore at the time, I thought the name sounded rather campy. Once I started reading up on the lore of the universe on Lexicanum and other 40K-related wiki sites I understood what the fuss was all about. So when Forge World announced they were releasing the 30K lineup of models, I was ecstatic.
Not many players at my local GW play the 30K setting due to the sheer number of models required for a decent sized game. Fortunately my boss at work is just as big of a 30K nerd as I am and has a sizeable Luna Wolves army that I can square my Blood Angels against.
So over the coming weeks I'll post some images of IX Legion Blood Angels models along with some other stuff I've been working on.
For today, I present the Primarch of the World Eaters, Angron - the Red Angel.
The paints I used were as follows:
Armor:
Basecoat: Balthazar Gold
Shade: Agrax Earthshade
Layer: Gehennas Gold
Glaze: 50/50 Agrax Earthshade/Lahmian Medium
Oxidation: 50/50 Nihilak Oxidation/Agrax Earthshade
For the World Eaters and Death Guard, I used Forge World's Heresy painting guide found here:
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/downloads/product/pdf/h/Horus_Heresy_Painting_Guide.pdf
Overall I'm fairly happy with the results.
The cloak was base coated with Rhinox Hide, washed with Agrax Earthshade, then drybrushed with Administratum Grey mixed with various levels of Balor Brown. |
The leather pteruges were base coated with Rhinox Hide, then layered with the old Citadel Scab Red |
Splattered blood was Blood for the Blood God (how apropos) applied by dipping a large drybrush in the paint and then flicking it on to create a splattered effect. |
Another shot of the leather details. |
Next Week: Blood Angels Stormraven - Both the Grey Knights and Blood Angels Stormravens were painted with an airbrush using the same technique which will be presented next week. |
Grey Knights Stormraven. Interior is fully painted and will try to get some snapshots of that later. |
And one more money shot of the Lord of the Red Sands for good measure. |
Looking good, Darian. Looking forward to seeing more shots of those Stormravens. I love how different models can look in the hands of different talented painters.
ReplyDeleteAnother great post. The forgeworld stuff is unreal.
ReplyDeleteYeah, you kind of feel sorry for Angron after reading Butcher's Nails and Betrayer. Not that you'd say it to his face, of course. He'd rip you a new one. Awesome paint job btw.
