Having fun working on the Chimera, so why not start on my Russ squadron? Honestly, vehicles were just the shake up I needed to get excited about the hobby again.
As always, I prime white, then preshade with black along the panel lines and recesses. This keeps the final result from looking flat and uninteresting.
Decided against a camo pattern on these, but might change my mind before they're finished. Looks like the sponsons will friction fit, so I can swap weapons at will, but I'm still figuring out how to magnetize the turret, so I can have my choice of main weapon - or is one option better than all the rest, and becomes a "must take"? Anyone have advice?

ok so this may be a noob comment, but I'm just starting out using an airbrush for the first time.
ReplyDeletePre-shading - I've heard it mentioned a lot but to be honest I've never really noticed a difference in photos - does it make a difference 'in the flesh'?
yes. It doesn't show up much in cell phone pictures, but under studio conditions and in person it definitely makes a difference.
DeleteThe barrel can be magnetised quite easily at the housing end, using the little lip of the gun mantlet and the magnet in the centre of the barrels, with the Demolisher kit anyway, giving a Demolisher, or Plasma or Punisher.
ReplyDeleteThe mount is actually different on the basic Leman Russ kit. I've got both.
DeleteMy persona take on "must take" weapons is that today's must is in tomorrow's dustbin. You know intimately how a codex can change from edition to edition, and that unit or weapon you used to love is now utter crap. With a particularly big shakeup on the near horizon, I'd definitely err on the side of future-proofing. Plus, it makes it that much more compelling for resale if you ever get to that point.
