WIP: Alpha 'Fiend- Finally Making Progress

After an eternity of painting nothing but black, I finally break out some new colors.

First step was to throw some washes on the flesh areas. I started with Reikland Fleshshade, just adding a little definition. Next was Carroburg Crimson, added only to the areas where the skin has peeled back. I'll probably do a couple more layers, and maybe something a little...juicier before I'm done. Needs to look nice and gross.

Now, I should probably finish the skin before I go nuts on the armor but I wanted to see how my contrast was looking, so went back over all the black with some Leadbelcher. Not bad. Will need some more contrast. I'll likely pick out a few elements to do in brass or copper, just for some variety.

I've always had a bit of a tough time with brushing metallics, especially on large panels. I read a tip somewhere that if you mix a little airbrush medium in there, it helps thin the paint without diluting out the pigment too much, and the little bit of drying retardant in there helps you get a coat down before it starts clogging up on you. Definitely seemed to help a bit.

  1. I just love that blue...it looks so awesome! Nice tip on the metallics! I know some fellows have been using the new GW airbrush metallics as brush paints as well. (basically pre-thinned). I haven't tried that myself yet, and that didn't work with vallejo air.
