Since the Stormraven didn't come with any Grey Knights decals and this Tau player doesn't even have any spare Space Marine ones lying around, I decided to make my own. Buy yourself some decal printer paper, and you can use em too!
So this thing probably isn't 100% done. I'll probably go back and make a few changes now that I've tried them out on the actual model, and I'll be sure to update with some minor scale tweaks, etc. I wasn't quite sure what symbols to give the Knights now that their divorce from the Inquisition is complete. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm happy to make more edits. I can post up multiple versions. Both of these are PNG files which is a file format that preserves transparency. That means you won't have to trim around them perfectly. The background is probably showing as either grey (in this post), or white (or some other color when it's on your desktop), but that color is actually transparent on the file itself and won't print.
This first one is for your standard home printer:
You're probably saying "hey, there's a lot of dead space on there" and you're right. That's because I didn't lay it out for a standard printer. I deleted all the white stuff except for the two shields. The way I constructed them, they'd be solid red otherwise. Regardless, it shouldn't print the white so you'd have to paint the white and then slap the shield decal down on top. If you have access to a fancy printer that can do white (a lot of local print shops could probably do it for you for just a few bucks!) use this one below and you'll unlock some bonus white skulls, numbers, and stuff:
I'm really just getting started with this, so if you have ideas for what would be useful, not just for vehicles, but infantry as well, I'm happy to lay them out and put them here for free!I thought about doing names, etc, for those tiny shoulder banners, but got lazy in my brainstorming.
Oh, and one more tip- print one out on standard paper first and make sure you like the scale, just so you don't waste expensive decal paper.

storm raven's looking great - and kudos to you for still managing to post the day after DESTINY came out! :)
ReplyDeleteThose are some really clean bolter drills. I never get them all so perfectly lined up and smooth.
ReplyDeleteDo you know if these would print on a Cricut or something similar?
ReplyDeleteI had to look up what a Cricut was. I suspect they are probably vector based, but I can't tell from a quick scan of their website if they can import Illustrator (.ai) files or not. These files were created in Illustrator, so if you want to give it a go, I can send them to you. My only worry with vinyl stickers is that they might be a little thicker than you'd like and they'll look like stickers rather than painted on, but that depends on the media they have available.
DeleteAlso. Needs swords. Look at the black sword pattern on the dreadknight and in the previous GK codex. Look at the Siege of Vraks decal sheet on forge world's site and you can see what GK/Inquisition decals are there.
ReplyDeleteThe 40 swords there aren't good?
DeleteOh I see, they're in black. Mea culpa. I just thought when you were soliciting more ideas that the black parts were just. Blank space.
Deleteyeah, they're tough to see. That's the downside of our fancy grey background. The 2 images in 1000 that we post with transparency get a little funky looking.
DeleteYou've got a lot more experience with GK than I, as well as all your fluff knowledge. I'll definitely check out the FW decals and be happy to work up anything else you think would be good.
