SHOWCASE: Tau Riptide

A gallery of the recently completed Riptide battle suit.

I greatly enjoyed building and painting this kit. You can follow my progress on it in this month's recap. There are a few things I'd change about it, but overall, I think it turned out really well.

I magnetized the main weapon, so that I could switch the loadout whenever I wanted. Below you can see the heavy burst cannon.

I detailed the model using an oil wash, and added weathering using paints and pigments.

I also magnetized the shield arm's hard points, so I could switch the secondary weapons loadout.

I masked and painted my sept's markings on the shield.

I also created a custom head, to replace the tiny one included in the kit. This is just a kit-bash of parts included with the model, detailed HERE. I'm quite pleased with the lenses.

Tau forces advance through the ruins of an Imperial manufactorum, supported by a Riptide.

  1. Slick. Did some more weathering since we last played? Now that I can see it close up, I can see where the parts on that head came from, but it's a nice, original conversion.
